The Remote Area Health Corps (RAHC) is a Commonwealth-funded program and the craft group requirements are set by the Department of Health. The emphasis is on Registered Nurses (RNs), General Practitioners (GPs), Audiologists and Oral Health Professionals (HPs). 

As a RAHC General Practitioner, you will work with a supportive team to deliver healthcare in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout the Northern Territory (NT). You don't have to give up your regular job to work with RAHC, as placements work around your other responsibilities. If you have urban-based experience as a GP, you already have the skills you need to start making a difference.

To be considered for a placement with RAHC, our GPs must meet a minimum level of criteria, as outlined below.

  1. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery or an Australian/overseas equivalent recognised by the Australian Medical Council.

  2. Current unrestricted registration as a GP with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  3. Evidence of Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) or vocational registration.

  4. As applicable, evidence of completing previous triennium requirements and active participation in continuing education recognised by the RACGP Quality Assurance and Continuous Professional Development, ACRRM Professional Development Program, or another specialist college.

  5. Additional qualifications or recognition may be required for the provision of specific clinical services, procedures or other interventions.

  6. Details of all past and continuing healthcare-related employment, particularly in General Practice as a recognised GP.

  7. Evidence of current professional indemnity insurance as a GP (Level 1).

  8. Two professional references from GPs who can attest to current and, if appropriate, past clinical experience.       

Remote or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders health experience is welcomed but not essential.
