World Immunisation Week, celebrated in the last week of April each year, highlights the collective action needed to promote vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.
The ultimate goal of World Immunisation Week is for more people – and their communities – to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples experience higher rates of vaccine-preventable diseases within their communities. For this reason, there are additional vaccines available for free through the National Immunisation Program. Immunisation remains a simple, timely and effective way to improve health.
Recommended vaccines include:
- Influenza vaccine
- Meningococcal B – at ages two months, four months, six months and 12 months
- Hepatitis A – 18 months and four years
- Pneumococcal (3 doses) for those 50 years and over
You can find out which immunisations you need that are available to you via the National Immunisation Program Schedule.
