In response to user feedback, the Remote Primary Health Care Manuals (RPHCM) editorial committee is trialling a new Acute Assessment Protocol to the Standard Treatment Manual. This protocol is designed to assist remote clinicians in escalating patient emergency care and reducing pressures in stressful situations. It does so by providing more guidance during the initial assessment stage of determining a likely diagnosis.

The new protocols have been designed to address the most common presenting symptoms in remote care settings, such as:

  • abdominal pain
  • breathing problems
  • chest pain
  • delirium
  • headaches
  • nausea and vomiting
  • children with fevers.

Health services and professionals are invited to test these protocols and provide feedback on the presentation and applicability to remote primary healthcare practice.

If you would like to view this draft protocol, get further information or contribute to the revision of this protocol before its integration into the updated manuals, contact the RPHCM Team at:
