In May 2023, RAHC partnered with Miwatj to deliver child health checks and assist with a backlog of immunisations in Galiwinku. As a result of this partnership, we completed 280 child health checks and 963 vaccinations over the course of 18 days.
RAHC and Miwatj learnt that Galiwinku was suffering from severe staff shortages post-COVID-19 and, as a result, were behind in their child health checks and vaccinations. Our joint response allowed us to provide four General Practitioners and five Remote Area Nurses to support the clinic move through the backlog and provide protection against childhood illness and disease.
By providing this surge support to Galiwinku, RAHC and Miwatj were able to ease the pressure on the clinic and allow clinic staff to focus on other primary healthcare needs of the community. As a result, the new staff coming into the clinic are able to focus on primary healthcare. In turn, this helps us to maintain recalls and assist with managing healthcare to ensure all children at Galiwinku receive the care needed to enable better futures.
Following the successful surge response, RAHC and Miwatj have been asked to provide a similar support response in Milingimbi.
