In December 2021, the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) - Indigenous Health Research Fund’s International Review of the Roadmap and Implementation Plan report was released.
The report summarises the outcomes of the Indigenous Health Research Fund’s International Review Panel meeting held on 17 March 2021. This panel was held to inform the strategic direction of the Roadmap and Implementation Plan. It outlines the scope, membership, discussions and recommendations of the panel.
The $20 billion long-term investment, MRFF, supports Australian health and medical research. Of this, $160 million is dedicated to the 10-year Indigenous Health Research Fund programme. This fund is designed to collate health and medical research to prevent disease and promote health and social equity. Primarily, the Fund aims to ‘inform and transform the way the health system responds to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the life course’.
The Indigenous Health Research Fund plan to achieve their goal of improving the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through:
- “Indigenous-led research practice and governance
- knowledge translation
- evidence-based change in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practice.”
